New moms who work outside of the home will likely find that during their pregnancy and maternity leave, they will need to begin looking into hiring a nanny for their return to the job. Nannies have several advantages over daycare, but the idea of hiring a nanny may also bring with it a great deal of anxiety and concern for the new mother. However, hiring a nanny does not need to be traumatic, and in fact can mean expanding one's family to include a loving caregiver for a new baby.

One of the most common fears a new mother is likely to have about nannies is that this person they have brought into their home will run away with the baby or will harm the baby in some way. This is simply not the case. While there have been notable high-profile cases in years past of problematic caregivers, the truth is that the overwhelming majority of nannies are kind, caring people who will treat their charges as if they were their own children.

Some parents claim that their children are gifted or talented. They talk about how great their kids are, how smart they are. They describe all the pluses of their beloved daughter or son. He/she can do this and that.

How is it to spot a gifted or talented kid?

Tip 1

Never treat children as inferiors. I’m often amazed at the attitude of people. Some people think that a child is only a half a person and cannot contribute anything until it has reached adulthood. I have learnt more about myself from my kids than any other person living on this earth. Just think how you feel when your boss, spouse, partner or colleague gives you the impression that they are cleverer, more experienced and better than you. Would you agree that it doesn’t feel like a good place to be in?

Tip 2

Don’t kill personalities by saying things like Oh you’ll never amount to anything with that attitude. If your parents said it to you it may be possible that you’re just repeating the same old stuff. This is not true. People can amount to anything they want to be. The only thing holding them back is a set of false beliefs. So refrain from programming them into believing they’ll never amount to being anything.

* They have to dress up to do it…We recommend kids kit up with mask and apron to make tie dye. This will protect their clothes from spills that stain. By far their favourite is the latex gloves they have to put on to keep their hands clean. I am told they make for very good water bombs when you are ten years old.

My friend's six-year-old son still can't seem to get through the week without at least 2 bed wetting incidents. She's got rubber sheets on the bed, and he wears pull-ups, but these do nothing to actually stop the problem. She figures part of it is her fault. She intends to rouse him every night to use the toilet, but it's such a struggle to wake him up! They say that being a sound sleeper is a major factor in bed wetting at this age, and I believe it. Her story isn't much different from mine.

An allowance is an important part of growing up and plays a significant role in developing the ability to manage money. Seen this way, your management and communication about it may be different than if you think of it as just a tactic to control the inflow of toys into the house.

When to begin a kid allowance? Age six would be the right time to start, after kids can count and begin to understand the price of different things they want to buy.

The emergence of the internet, and associated technologies like email and instant messaging, present problems for today's parents that were unimaginable just twenty years ago. Children use computers for homework, surf the web at their leisure and socialize through instant messaging - all activities that are often outside direct parental control and by themselves leave little or no record of their occurrence.

What did we ever do before the boob tube? Television has taken the “family” out of family time. Everyone’s eyes are glued to the television set and no one is talking. By setting a few guidelines, you can keep your kids from becoming strangers in their own home.
